Leo is the fifth astrological sign of the Zodiac, originating from the constellation of Leo. It is considered to be a masculine, extroverted, fire sign, ruled by the Sun. Leo is represented by the Nemean Lion, a vicious monster. The warrior Hercules eventually killed the monster as a part of the Twelve Labors he completed in order to gain his honor back. Hercules killed the lion by cornering it and choking it after he realized it that its pelt made it invincible to physical attacks. Because he had to take the pelt back, Hercules struggled to remove it and could only do so with the lion's own claws. After Hercules returned with the pelt, the king was so shocked that he gave Hercules the lion's invincible pelt to wear.
The astrological symbol for Leo is the lowercase letter "N" with lots of curves added to it. Some astrologers say that it represents the head and mane of the lion. Other said that it is the tail of the lion. This symbol shows up in many Leo tattoos as well as lion or a lion's mane. While most people wearing Leo tattoos were born under that sign, the lion is a power symbol in itself of life, resurrection and power.
