Can I resize my tattoo design ?
- Yes you can. Most tattoo designs can always be made larger and a good tattoo artist can help accommodate this request. Many tattoo designs can also be made smaller but be sure to consult with your tattoo artist about the best size for your tattoo. Sometimes changes must be made to the design when the size changes to accommodate for lesser or greater amounts of detail.

Do I need to print my design on special paper?
- No. Just print your design on any regular paper and bring it to the tattoo artist of your choice. Be sure to bring a print of both your reference image and your stencil.
I paid with PayPal, where is my tattoo design?
- For security reasons, your download will be associated with your default PayPal e-mail address. Download instructions will be sent to this e-mail address.
- Most PayPal transactions are processed immediately. If you do not receive instant access to your design, please be patient, PayPal is processing your request. Download instructions will be e-mailed to you.
- If you paid with an eCheck, PayPal must complete an electronic funds transfer from your bank. It will take up to 4 business days for the funds to clear. As soon as the funds clear, download instructions will be e-mailed to you.
Why does my reference image look the same as my stencil?
- In many cases the stencil and the reference image will look exactly the same. Certain types of tattoo designs such as tribal images are ready to go and make an excellent stencil for tattoos. Color images and shaded images should always have a separate stencil. Tribal and black designs often already function as a stencil.

Can you mail me a print-out of my Tattoo Designs?
- Unfortunately we do not offer this service at this time. If you do not have a printer, you can use any computer that has a printer to print your tattoo design and stencil. All Tattoo Designs are digital downloads.
Do I need to print my design on special paper?
- No. Just print your design on any regular paper and bring it to the tattoo artist of your choice. Be sure to bring a print of both your reference image and your stencil.

Can I make a small tattoo design larger?
- You can use your computer to resize the image to make it larger or smaller. You can also print the design at the original size and your tattooist will be able to resize it for you. Keep in mind that detailed images should be tattooed large enough so that the details are clear and easy for the tattooist to accurately render on your skin.
Can I mix and match more than one Tattoo Design?
- Combining parts of different images is a very common way of creating a custom one-of-a-kind tattoo. Some people will actually mix up to 5 or more designs to make a single unique masterpiece. After you select a few designs and download them to you computer you can arrange them just how you like. You might like the wings from one design and the body from another. You may use parts of each tattoo and combine them to make one really great piece of art.
Can I see a larger image of a tattoo design before I purchase it?
- Just click on any of the thumbnail images to see a large preview image. We made these preview images large enough to get a good clear idea of what each design looks like but not large enough to use for your tattoo. Larger preview images are often stolen and do not include the original artist stencil. Be sure to download your tattoo design and matching stencil to be sure to get the high-quality tattoo you deserve.
Can I use a Tattoo Design for something other than getting Tattooed?
- Every one of our tattoo design downloads are licensed for use as personal tattoos only. Please understand that all of the images are copyright protected on behalf of our artists. We do license images for other uses and would be happy to consider your request. Contact Us and tell us how you would like to use the design.
Can you create a custom tattoo design for me?
- Finding an artist who can do custom art for you is a very personal choice and requires a lot of time and direct communication. Unfortunately, we aren't set up to do custom tattoo designs at this time.

Why do I need both the reference and the stencil?
- Most people don't realize that every tattoo design has a matching stencil. When you get tattooed, the stencil is applied directly to your skin . The tattooist will use a machine called a "liner" to set your stencil permanently into the skin. Do not be tempted to get tattooed solely from your color reference or from an inferior hand-traced stencil. Trying to trace or copy a stencil is the number one cause of bad tattoos. With Tattoo Johnny's ORIGINAL ARTIST STENCILS, every curve and detail of your design will be accurate.
  
  Also be sure to bring a good copy of your reference image. Your tattooist will use the reference image as a guide to see how your tattoo should be colored or shaded. .

Tattoo Johnny will accept returns on Temporary Tattoo Paper and Healing Solution (that has not been or used or damaged) within 30 days of purchase. - Does the studio have a yellow page listing? How many years have they been in business? Do you know anyone who has gotten tattooed there? Is getting tattooed safe?

What is an autoclave?
- An autoclave is the only acceptable means of equipment sterilization in the tattoo studio. It is a machine that uses a combination of heat, steam and pressure to kill pathogenic microorganisms. If the studio does not use an autoclave, do not get tattooed there. Studios should keep regular records of their autoclave use and testing. Ask to see them if you feel uncertain.
What is single service equipment?
- All equipment should be single service. This means that each needle and tube set is individually packaged, dated, sealed and autoclaved. The artist should open a fresh set of needles and tubes in front of you. Any ointments, pigments, needles, gloves, razors, plastic trays or containers used in applying your new tattoo are discarded after use. After the tattoo application, the artist will disinfect the work area with an EPA approved virucidal that will kill any surface bacteria or viruses.
What is the tattoo process? How does it work?
- After the stencil is applied to your skin, the tattooist uses a machine to do your tattoo. The tattoo machine uses fine groups of needles to deposit small amounts of ink into the upper layers of the skin. The needle groups are driven up and down very rapidly by small magnets on the tattoo machine. Using the machine, the tattooist will carefully render your stencil with black ink, until it has been permanently transferred to your skin. This is how your stencil provides the foundation of your tattoo, giving it much of it's detail and clarity. Next, the tattooist will usually use a different grouping of needles and a different machine to apply the shading and color. Your tattooist should keep the color version of your design close at hand in order to accurately match the colors and shading. Once your tattoo is finished, your tattooist will clean the area making sure to remove any excess ink. After you have looked at your new tattoo in the mirror, the tattooist will bandage it up to make sure it stays clean.

Like a paint by numbers, your artist will use the stencil to make sure your tattoo comes out right. Will there be blood?
- There will be some blood. The amount varies from person to person. To help avoid excessive bleeding, avoid alcohol 24 hours before getting tattooed.
