Implants and Beading - Body Modification

Many people who are fans of body modification are turning to a relatively new (to us anyway) practice known as implants. No, not breast implants, although they do serve as a form of body modification as does all plastic surgery. For the purpose of this article, the art of implants is a surgical process where foreign objects are placed beneath the skin to create designs and protuberances. This can be in the form of spheres, horns, or beads. Whatever is used, the procedure is pretty much the same, and despite how gruesome or extreme the practice may sound, it's a relatively simple act.

First, an incision is made in the area that the implant (or beads) will be paced. Then, a pocket is formed (usually be separating the skin from the muscle) and the implant is inserted. After that, the wound is stitched and treated until it has healed.

Popular materials for implants and beading include titanium, soft solid silicone, and Teflon. Stainless steel can also be used, but with it there is a greater risk of allergic reaction or actual rejection of the implants. Rejection is the rare reaction when your body's immune system can't assimilate the foreign materials and instead expel them through the skin.

Another common risk is nerve damage, especially in areas like the temple, cheek and the back of the hand. So, know the risks before you get it done, as you could experience temporary or permanent loss of feeling in these and other areas of the body. But as far as beading and implant placement, you can do it just about anywhere, from the forehead, arms, wrists, chest, back, belly, genitals if you can think it, it can probably be done.

Another side effect, but not really a risk, is shifting. While this isn't really a serious matter, and will more than likely occur with anyone who's had the procedure, without proper care or monitoring, the shifting can become rather severe, and may totally alter the desired appearance.

Beading and Implants have become increasingly popular to people who are striving to show their own unique individuality. While once upon a time this could be done with a piercing or a tattoo, now these practices are nearly commonplace. So, people in growing numbers are turning to extreme body modification and surgical body modification to express their self and to remain separate from the rest of the world.
