Scorpio is the eighth astrological sign in the Zodiac and originates from the constellation of Scorpius. The sign of Scorpio is considered feminine, extroverted water sign ruled by the planet Pluto. Individuals born between October 23rd and November 21st are said to be born under the sign of Scorpio.
These people are said to be intense, emotional, passionate, secretive, loyal, ambitious and extreme.

In mythology, Scorpio refers to the scorpion that killed the mighty huntsman, Orion. Orion was hunting the goddess of the hunt, Artemis and her mother Leto to avenge a previous attack made on him. During his hunt, he threatened to kill every beast on Earth to bring them out of hiding. Gaia or Mother Earth was offended by this and sent a giant scorpion to kill him. After his death, the goddesses asked Zeus to place Orion among the stars. He did, but he also put the scorpion in the heavens as memorial to the hero's death. The scorpion became the constellation Scorpius.

The astrological symbol for Scorpio, a stylized letter M' with a tail, is said to represent the scorpion and its deadly tail. This is symbol is often incorporated in Scorpio tattoos. There are other animals, like the wolf, tiger, eagle, phoenix and gray lizard, that are associated with Scorpio as well and might appear in a Scorpio tattoo. Because Scorpio is a water sign, you might also find water elements such as waves, sand or seaweed within a Scorpio tattoo.
